MALTA OPEN 2025

SUCCESSFUL CHAMPIONSHIPS

This years' venue for the Malta Open Championships was the national basketball arena, Ta' Qali.  The well set-up arena,  prepared for another A-Class Championships, was met with enthusiastic competitors and referees from all over the world. The forty five federations from twenty three countries participated in these much awaited prestigious Championships, organised every year by Mr Chris Galea, well-known for his professional organisational skills. Together with SKSMs professional TECH SQUAD, Referees, Judges, coaches, and all officials with specific roles, the Championships ran smoothly over two  days.

All teams from the 23 countries were presented during a spectacular grand opening Ceremony, welcoming Hon. Minister Clifton Grima, Minister for Education and Sports, and other VIPS, namely Mr Jeremy Vassallo and Ms Leanne Bugeja representing APS Bank Plc., and Mr Anatole Baldacchino, board member for Further and Higher Education.

The main event partners included VisitMalta, Aps Bank Plc, and H2only.

A welcoming speech was delivered by the organiser, Mr C. Galea, WKA President, Mr O. Ranjbar, and Hon. Minister Grima. More than five hundred athletes were present during the championships. The Referees' President, Ms L. Galea, responsible for the Refereeing panel, was also present for the ceremony.

 

 

 

 

The team from Poland were the overall winners, Malta SKSM team placed second, and third place was won by England. The Kumite Challenge Shield was held after all categories were finished, were the highest ranked athletes from the mentioned three countries, competed against each other. Poland won the 2nd Edition of this shield.
